THE Chantry Centre in Dursley is shipshape for the winter season now that repairs to its roof are complete.

In total, repairs cost £17,240 and were funded by a generous grant from the Gloucestershire Environmental Trust, together with landfill tax contributions donated by Cory Environmental.

Lister Hall, as it was formerly known, and its social club facilities were recently threatened with closure until saved by the foundation of the Chantry Centre charity.

Earlier this year the charity’s trustees ran events to raise its profile and ask for help, the result being numerous local people signing up to give their support and a vote of confidence.

"This is an important local facility which is dear to the hearts of Dursley residents and the setting for many a happy memory," said Rachel Beckett, promotions co-ordinator for the centre.

"It is very pleasing that through these generous grants we are now on the way to getting it in shape to meet the present and future needs of the Dursley community."

In addition to the Lister Hall, the centre has a licensed bar, a separate lounge bar, two skittle alleys, a snooker room and two large practice rooms, all of which are available for hire.

Rachel added: "The centre is at the heart of Dursley’s community and we want to keep it that way, so the more bookings we get the better."

She would also like to hear from anyone who would like to join the Chantry Centre’s Friends scheme, which is an opportunity to keep in touch with ongoing developments and offer financial support.
