Landslip at Westerleigh causes rail disruption
10:00am Wednesday 28th November 2012 in News By Alexandra Womack
A LANDSLIP near Westerleigh is causing severe delays on the railway line this morning.
The embankment is reported to have started slipping at Westerleigh Junction at around 8am, leaving the line blocked between Bristol Parkway and Swindon and Gloucester to Bristol Parkway.
Network Rail engineers are on site and have confirmed an embankment slip.
Staff on site are assessing whether it is safe to pass trains and an earthworks engineer has been called to attend.
Passengers have been stuck on two trains - the Worcester to Weymouth service and the Derby to Plymouth service – for several hours.
Network Rail said it was working hard to get the two trapped trains moved as quickly as possible.
