A WOTTON father has gone a year without shaving or cutting his hair, all in the name of charity.
Dave Phillips embarked on his Hair for Heroes challenge at the end of 2011, deciding to grow his hair for a year.
The 27-year-old shaved his hair and facial hair off last New Year’s Eve and has not trimmed or shaved since then.
He aimed to raise £1,000 for a charity close to his heart – Help for Heroes.
The warehouse team leader has close ties to the army, with personal experience with the Territorial Army and friends and family serving in the Armed Forces.
He was inspired to launch his hairy crusade after taking part in the Movember fundraiser in 2011.
Mr Phillips said: "I did Movember last year and it was just pretty easy.
"So many people do it, so I decided to do it (grow hair) for a year instead of a month."
In the 12 months he has grown a long beard and thick head of hair.
As New Year’s Day approaches, Mr Phillips is looking forward to having a long-awaited haircut.
He’s almost raised his target of £1,000 towards helping wounded soldiers and servicemen and has enjoyed the experience, apart from teasing from his friends.
Mr Phillips said his fiancée Lauren Pagett and their two daughters were looking forward to having him hair-free.
