A SECTION of the A46 is to close at weekends for essential maintenance to sewer systems.

The road will be shut between the Cold Ashton roundabout and London Road in Bath from Fridays at 8pm until 6am on Mondays.

The first of seven weekend closure is due to take effect this Friday, January 11. A diversion will be put in place.

The work is scheduled to be completed by March 14 and will see the road closed for seven weekends.

Southbound traffic will be diverted at the Cold Ashton roundabout to take the A420 east to Chippenham where it will take the A350 south and then join the A4 west to travel to Bath and the London Road junction. Northbound traffic will be diverted at the London Road junction to follow this diversion route in the reverse direction to either join the A46 at Cold Ashton roundabout or travel north to the M4 from Chippenham.

As well as the closures, there will be a 40mph limit on the affected section of the A46 and a layby on the southbound side will be closed during the works. The disruption is to allow for the repair and renewal of sewer systems.
