Leyhill absconder still on the run

AN ABSCONDER from Leyhill Open Prison has still not been captured.

Convicted rapist Sean Cawthray, 41, was last seen at 5.30pm on Sunday, December 30. He is thought to have left the prison sometime before 8.30pm.

Since he went missing detectives have been conducting inquiries to locate Cawthray and return him to prison. He is known to have links to Leicestershire and South Yorkshire.

He is described as a white man, 5ft 9ins to 5ft 11ins tall, of medium build with short brown hair and blue eyes. When last seen he was wearing a pair of silver coloured training shoes, cream coloured combat trousers and a light blue coloured Helly Hansen type top. He may have been wearing either a worker's fluorescent jacket, grey jacket with orange patches or black jacket with a blue patch.

Det Insp Jill Kells, from South Gloucestershire CID, said: "Our efforts to locate Sean Cawthray continue and we will work tirelessly until he is apprehended and returned to prison. Since he was last seen we have been busy conducting extensive enquiries and are working closely with local police forces in the areas where he has links. We have not had any confirmed sightings so far but people must know where he is and someone may be protecting him."

Anyone spotting Sean Cawthray is advised not to approach him but to contact police immediately on 999.
