ANOTHER year, another fundraising campaign for Airbus employees, who will keep their eye on the prize as they attempt to rake up £200,000 for dementia sufferers over the next 18 months.

Staff at the aircraft manufacturer in Filton have chosen The Alzheimer’s Society as their charity for 2013/2014 and have already pledged to collect just under a quarter of a million pounds in support of dementia patients and their carers.

From marathons to cake sales or quiz nights, they will take part in and organise themselves a variety of events to reach their ambitious fundraising target.

Phil McGraa, charity campaign manager for Airbus, said: "Our people within Airbus in the UK have raised more than £5.5 million over the last decade for our partner charities and I know that they will continue that good work with the Alzheimer’s Society.

"It’s really inspirational to see the staff giving up their time to arrange and take part in fundraising events, but it is also as much about raising awareness of dementia too."

Liz Monks, director of fundraising at Alzheimer's Society, welcomed the firm’s generous help. She said: "We are delighted that Airbus has chosen us as their new charity partner and look forward to a great 18 months of fundraising.

"One in three people over 65 will develop dementia, so the condition will touch most of our lives at some point. The fantastic support of Airbus staff will help Alzheimer's Society champion the rights of people living with dementia and the millions who care for them."
