SINGERS in Thornbury are appealing for help in finding old choir members in their special anniversary year.

The Thornbury Choral Society is this year celebrating its 50th anniversary.

Founded in 1963 as the Thornbury Music Club and Choir, the society is still going strong today, having changed its name in 1988.

Society members are hoping Gazette readers may be able to help track down former singers who have lost touch with the choir so they can enjoy some of the wide range of musical events planned to celebrate this milestone year.

These include a black tie dinner, a reception and a family barbecue.

On Friday, May 3 the distinguished English pianist John Lill will be performing a programme of works by Beethoven, Brahms, Mozart, Prokofiev and Schumann in the Armstrong Hall in Thornbury.

The society has also commissioned a new choral work from their composer and conductor Steven Kings, which will be performed at their 50th Anniversary Concert on Saturday, May 18.

Secretary Jos Gregson said: "The 50th anniversary has proved to be an exciting event for the society.

"There is still one member of the society who was at the inaugural meeting of the society on July 19, 1963 singing with us and a number of others who are still living in the Thornbury area."
