AN INVESTIGATION is under way after a suspected arson attack in Cam caused damage to buildings and equipment.

A wooden field shelter was set alight and around 120 small bales of hay weighing 20 tonnes caught fire at the site just off of Field Lane.

Three fire engines were battling the blaze for over three hours after numerous calls were received at around 8.30pm on Monday, January 28.

The fire also destroyed a horsebox and a trailer parked next to the shelter.

In addition, three horses along with a variety of equine equipment was housed in stables close to the field shelter but were unharmed thanks to the direction of the wind.

Two fire engines initially attended from Dursley Fire Station with Watch Commander Neil Bridges in charge.

Further resources were needed and a third fire engine was sent from Wotton-under-Edge.

The firefighters used two jets and one hose reel to combat the flames and propane cylinders found in the fire were cooled to ensure they were safe. They remained on the scene until 11.42pm.

Police are appealing for information about the blaze, which may have been started at around 5pm.

Anyone with information that could help the investigation should call police on 101 quoting incident 535 of January 28, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, or via www.crimestoppers-uk.org
