Royal Oak Stables on Horse Street gutted by flames in Chipping Sodbury

AROUND 35 firefighters tackled a blaze which gutted a workshop in Chipping Sodbury yesterday morning.

Crews were called to the Royal Oak Stables, at the rear of Horse Street, at 1.25am following reports of a fire.

By the time emergency services arrived at the scene the workshop was well alight. Five appliances and at least 35 staff spent two hours trying to extinguish the flames, which had spread to a nearby building.

No-one was injured.

The origin of the fire is unknown.

An Avon Fire and Rescue spokesman today said: "Crews will be on the scene all day to assist scene of crime officers from Avon and Somerset Police."

South Gloucestershire Council structural engineers will also be on site to advise emergency services and police.
