South Gloucestershire Council expects bumper nominations for annual community awards after Diamond Jubilee and London Olympics
6:00pm Thursday 14th February 2013 in News By Alexandra Womack
NOMINATIONS are being sought for South Gloucestershire Council’s 10th annual community awards.
The authority is marking a decade of honouring people in the community who voluntarily give up their time to help others.
Since the award scheme was launched in 2003, the council has celebrated the work of hundreds of people including charity fundraisers, local football club managers, sports coaches and arts festival organisers.
Current council chairman Cllr Janet Biggin said: “With the community spirit shown over the past year during the Olympics, Paralympics and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, I am anticipating a large number of nominations for the annual chairman’s community awards.
“From people who organised street parties for the jubilee to those who took the time to decorate their houses along the Olympic torch route in South Gloucestershire, I am really looking forward to seeing this year’s nominations so please nominate an unsung hero today.”
The nominations deadline is February 22. To make a nomination go to www.southglos.gov.uk/communityawards or call 01454 863008 or email communityawards@southglos.gov.uk
Winners will be invited to a ceremony at the BAWA club in Filton on Thursday, April 18.
