Dogs owners in Thornbury could be asked to sign pledge to clear after their pets as part of Green Dog Walker scheme

DOG owners in Thornbury could be asked to sign a pledge to clear up after their pets.
The local authority in conjunction with Thornbury leaders is considering introducing the Green Dog Walker scheme to the town - an initiative already rolled out to five other areas in South Gloucestershire to tackle fouling.
As part of the scheme, owners would be asked to agree to pick up after their animal. They would also be obliged to carry spare plastic bags with them and offer them to anyone who does not clear up after their pet.
The Green Dog Walker scheme was successfully introduced in Wickwar, Old Down, Chipping Sodbury, Frampton Cotterell and Stoke Gifford last year.
A South Gloucestershire Council spokesman said: "This is an innovative scheme that we have set up to help local people address dog fouling problems in their area.
"At present the scheme operates in five areas of South Gloucestershire but we hope that in time more communities will take it up."
