Dyrham district of Girlguiding is disbanded after 35 years of meetings with Marshfield, Wick and Pucklechurch units

A GUIDING unit which has been meeting since 1935 has held its final event together in Dyrham.

The district division, which comprises of units from Marshfield, Wick and Pucklechurch as well as Dyrham and Doynton, met for the last time on Saturday before it is disbanded from April 1.

Members of the district’s Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Senior Section participated in activities from countries including Jordan, Malawi, Pakistan and Venezuela to mark national Thinking Day.

Every member donated 10pence and money raised this year will go specifically to aid Guiding in the featured countries.

The girls also enjoyed a camp fire at the meeting at Doynton Village Hall.

Rosalind Abbott, Dyrham district commissioner, said: “In our Guiding county of Bristol and South Gloucestershire, the district level is being abolished with effect from April 1 this year.

“Dyrham District comprises all GirlGuiding units within Marshfield, Wick and Pucklechurch, and has been in existence since 1935 so this is quite a significant occasion.

"The date chosen links to Thinking Day, the joint birthdays of Lord and Lady Baden-Powell on February 22, when we think of our 10 million sister Guides around the world.”
