A 35-year-old woman has been charged with perverting the course of justice following the deaths of a couple killed in an alleged hit and run in Hanham in January.

Louise Cox, of Oldland Common, was charged by Avon and Somerset Police officers yesterday in connection with a fatal road crash which claimed the lives of Ross and Clare Simons on Lower Hanham Road on Sunday, January 27.

She is due to appear at North Avon Magistrates Court on Monday, March 4.

The Fishponds couple were hit by a blue Citroen while riding a tandem bike. They died at the scene.

Shortly after the incident Nicholas Lovell, 38, of West Street, Oldland Common, was charged with two offences of death by dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, driving without insurance and leaving the scene of a collision.

He remains in custody awaiting his next court appearance.
