Wotton-udner-Edge dental practice Chipping Manor collecting unused baby items for orphanage in Tanzania

ENTERPRISING staff at a Wotton-under-Edge dental practice are gathering together resources to help orphaned children in Tanzania.

The Chipping Manor Dental Practice has close ties to the country through its work with dental charity Bridge2Aid.

Over the past six years, Chipping Manor has raised around £135,000 for the charity.

After practice owner Shaenna Loughnane visited a Tanzanian children’s home in January, she was keen to help them out too.

Forever Angels is an interim care home for infants, babies and young toddlers in Mwanza, northern Tanzania.

Founder and manager Amy Hathaway cares for around 50 orphaned, abandoned and HIV positive children, ranging from newborns to five-year-olds.

The team at Chipping Manor are collecting together donations of toiletries, summer clothes, fitted cot and bed sheets and all manner of baby toys, equipment and supplies.

Good quality second-hand items are more than welcome to be added to a container being sent to the home this month.

Practice manager Alison Chomette, who is sending her son’s old Moses basket, said: "The interesting feature is that it doesn’t necessarily need people to put their hands in their pockets.

"These are things people might have in the attic. It’s quite nice to send it over where it can get use."

They are also raising money to help buy specialist chairs for two very special children; Katy, six, and Juma, five. Both are severely disabled and in need of chairs costing £300 each.
