HANDY boys gave up their Saturday to pack hundreds of shopping bags in a bid to buy new kit for their football club.
The 17 members of the Thornbury under-10s team spent a whole afternoon filling groceries’ bags at Tesco supermarket on Midland Way in exchange for donations.
The children threw themselves into the task and their hard work paid off as generous townspeople shelled out an impressive £355 towards new equipment for the dream team.
The charity event put them a step closer to securing the £500 they need to buy brand new kit.
Club co-ordinator and proud mum of player Luke, ten, Jennie Bennett said: "We are very grateful to Tesco for allowing us to hold this fundraising event to help raise money for a much needed new football kit. "We are delighted that we managed to raise a total of £355 and would like to say a big thank you to all Tesco shoppers who were very kind and generous to the boys."
She added: "We are also trying to raise money by selling teas and coffees at our home matches and will continue other events in the future to help future purchases of equipment. And we are looking for sponsorship also."
