PUPILS from a school in Cam enjoyed a day of dressing up as part of their push to improve literacy.
All 145 pupils at Cam Woodfield Infant School became their favourite book characters for a day along with teachers and teaching assistant Tracey McHale, dressed as Willy Wonka, was on hand to give six golden tickets to the best costumes in each class as well as a prize.
The winners were Reece Penny from badger class, Matilda Holton from mole class, Zac Thomas from fox class, Charlie Galliott from hedgehog class, Harry Turl from owl class and grace wellings from squirrel class.
A celebration assembly was held and every class had a chance to share their favourite book characters with the rest of the school and the day was finished with a reading by teachers from their favourite books.
Foundation stage teacher and part of the literacy team at the school, Abbie Mcclung, said there was a real buzz of excitement throughout the day on March 7.
"The pupils really enjoyed seeing the teachers dressing up and getting into the spirit of the day," she said.
"We feel that days like this are important as it shows pupils that reading is fun and really brings books and their characters to life."
