Ridge Junior School head teacher clowns around in Yate for Comic Relief

A YATE head teacher has taken the challenge of doing something funny for money by having no less than nine custard pies thrown in his face.

Ridge Junior School head Philip Boult ran an 11-mile circuit around all 14 schools in Yate on Friday where students had the chance to throw pies at him, in return for a donation to Comic Relief.

“It was thoroughly enjoyable,” said Mr Boult. “I did take wet wipes and a towel with me so I could clean myself up after each custard pie.

“All the schools were fabulous and either a special assembly or me or allowed the children outside to watch me.

“It was a lot of fun.”

Dressed in a comedy red curly wig and a red nose, the day’s clowning around was Mr Boult’s first escapade in fundraising for Comic Relief.

“It was my idea as I wanted to fundraise for Comic Relief with a special emphasis on raising money to send children in Africa to school,” he said.

“It is something we take for granted here and I wanted to raise awareness of the face it is quite a privileged thing.”

With sponsorship for the run and donations to throw custard pies, Mr Boult has so far raised £260 and hopes to reach £300 in total.

Ridge pupils also wore fancy dress and red clothing to school on Friday, raising another £150 for Comic Relief.
