TEACHERS in Winterbourne turned as mad as a hatter and got as lost as Where’s Wally to celebrate World Book Day.

Staff from the English department at Winterbourne International Academy marked the national event, aimed at encouraging reading and celebrating our greatest books, by dressing up as their favourite fictional characters for the day.

Little Red Riding Hood, War Horse, The Mad Hatter, Wally and Ron Weasley were all seen around the school to help promote reading across the year groups.

Year 7 students were also tasked with guessing as many of the characters as possible throughout the day with the students who guessed the most correctly winning book tokens.

Liz Moncur, who helped organise the day, said "The students loved learning about fictional characters and creative writing.

"World Book Day gives us a fantastic opportunity to do some very creative lessons that the students really engage with."
