STUDENTS in Wotton-under-Edge spent a day on wheels learning about disability and sport.

Katharine Lady Berkeley’s School ran a disability awareness initiative on Tuesday, March 12.

Assistant head teacher Robin Warren explained the idea behind it: "The Paralympic games have inspired many at school and several students have suggested that as part of the legacy, we promote awareness of disabilities more and fundraise to purchase equipment to help pupils understand and empathise with different issues."

The wheelchair awareness day took place in the sports department, with pupils from years 7, 8 and 9 invited to gain sponsorship to take part in wheelchair sports.

Students took part in a lunchtime wheelchair basketball competition.

Michael Wells of the Gloucester Blazers wheelchair basketball team joined Katharine Lady Berkeley's School pupils in the game of wheelchair basketball.

The aim was to raise money to purchase a set of wheel chairs and other resource and equipment to be used in PE and PSHEE.
