LET It Be - the 2013 Sodbury Festival is due to get underway next week with a Beatles theme.

Ten days of live music, entertainment, workshops and talks will take place in venues across the town and will feature well-known personalities, acclaimed orchestras as well as local historians, businesses and schoolchildren. Events will range from an opera concert to treasure hunts, a chemistry workshop to a historical slide show and a teddy bears’ picnic to a jewellery-making demonstration.

Festival chairman Brian Hardy said: “There will be something for everyone at this year’s festival and we hope will come and enjoy the various events.

“Plans are going well and we are very grateful to all our sponsors of the 2013 festival.”

The festival takes place between Friday, June 7 and Sunday, June 16.

Two headline acts will perform this year. The first will be an evening with writer and radio personality Tim Brooke-Taylor in conversation with broadcaster Chris Serle on Wednesday, June 12 (7.30pm) in Chipping Sodbury Town Hall. Then on Thursday, June 13 (7.30pm) gardener Tom Hart-Dyke who will talk of his experiences of being held captive in Columbia and deciding to design his dream garden on the day he was told to prepare to die.

Beatlemania will take over at the music in the street night in Broad Street on Tuesday, June 11 (7.30pm) when the winners of a battle of the bands competition will open an evening of live music. Pure Dance Crew will also perform before headliners Vegas take to a temporary stage to play Beatles covers from popular songs of the period. The road will be closed to traffic and families are welcome.

The on Saturday, June 15 (10am-5pm) an all-day street fair and carnival will take over the High Street featuring a processions of Beatles-themed floats created by local schools, a best-dressed stall competition, a steel band. Yate Star Twirlers, Pedator Athletics Cheerleaders and Dodington Parish Band.
