A 'TOOTH fairy' is educating children in Dursley in the ways of good dental health.

When she is not working at Archway Dental Practice in the town, Gemma Allen, 32, is visiting nearby schools and nurseries to help children keep their teeth clean and healthy.

In conjunction with Smile Month, running from May 20 to June 20, the recently qualified oral health educator has visited 14 schools and playgroups to spread her oral hygiene words of wisdom, with the help of superhero friend Super fluoride as well as villains Professor Plaque and Mr Sugar.

The mother of six-year-old Isabella, who lives in Rosebery Road, said the figures of children visiting the dentists was on the rise.

"I have been working at the practice for the last 13 years and thought that there are still a lot of children coming in for dental work and realised there’s nobody educating them in the community," she said.

"After travelling around the schools and nurseries it is really nice to see them recognising me in the street as the ‘tooth fairy’."
