GUIDES in Dursley have just completed a successful year of fundraising with Sainsbury’s supermarket in the town.

Girlguiding Dursley District has been the Charity of the Year for the supermarket, meaning they help the 200-strong group with their fundraising efforts.

As part of it, the girls have been invited in the store to help customers pack their bags as well as having donation buckets situated around the store.

The Guides are attempting to find enough funds for the senior Guides to attend an International Camp at Windsor in 2014, and ensure that all who would like to attend can do so.

Girlguiding Dursley district commissioner Anne Anderson said they had carried out various fundraising efforts in the store and raised £2,545.24 in the process.

"We have also had the opportunity to showcase what Guiding is all about by having displays in the store," she said.

"It is a phenomenal amount to raise in just one year and will it make such a huge difference to the girls of Girlguiding Dursley District.

"We would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank Nikova, their charity co-ordinator, and the rest of the team at Sainsbury’s for everything they have done."

The supermarket will soon announce this year’s Local Charity Partner.

PR ambassador for the supermarket, Paul Melling, said: "Sainsbury's in Dursley has been proud to offer support for the Guides and all the staff have enjoyed meeting the girls and working with them to raise some money for a good local cause."
