STROUD MP Neil Carmichael has met with Gloucestershire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Martin Surl to discuss the ongoing problem of speeding along the A38 near Moreton Valence.

The meeting on Friday, July 26 included representatives from Gloucestershire Highways, Stroud District Councillors Cllr Haydn Jones (Con, Severn), Cllr John Jones (Con, Severn) and Gloucestershire County Cllr Anthony Blackburn (Con, Hardwicke and Severn), representing the affected parishes which the road runs through.

Mr Carmichael said he would work with councillors and police representatives to ensure that a 50mph speed limit is imposed and the road resurfaced.

As part of the project, there will also be the reinforcement of village boundaries in the area surrounding Moreton Valence and the A38, through improved road signage.

The group also considered similar road safety proposal for the junction of the A46 and A4173, at Pitchcombe, in the near future. This will be factored under the road maintenance plan.

Speaking after the meeting, the Conservative backbencher said: “It is important that we work together with the police to continue improving road safety for both drivers and communities.

“The problem of speeding along the A38 has been an ongoing problem within the constituency and I hope these new measures will tackle the issue head on.

“I will continue my work with councillors and PCC Surl on this project and hope that the results will soon follow.”
