Great Bake Off competition to take place at Hobbs House Bakery during Chipping Sodbury Festival of Food
THE full programme for Chipping Sodbury’s festival of food has been announced.
The fourth annual celebration of tantalising tastes and delicious delicacies takes place on Saturday, September 28 in various locations across the town.
Organised by Sodbury Chamber of Commerce, it is part of South Gloucestershire Council's Discover Festival and will include beer and food tastings, cookery demonstrations and samplings at many of the town’s shops, restaurants and public houses.
New for this year is the Great Chipping Sodbury Bake Off, a cake and bread making competition based on the popular television series the Great British Bake Off. It will be held at Hobbs House School, run by TV chefs the Fabulous Baker Brother Tom and Henry Herbert, and there will be prizes for adults and children including a place on a course at the school. Entries should be dropped off by 11am and all those who take part will receive free tea and toast at Hobbs House.
Other highlights include an extended farmers’ market (9.30am-2pm) in the High Steet and demonstrations by Ann Murray, who runs Cooking4Cookery School. Mark Lloyd, chair of the chamber of commerce, said the festival was timely a month before a new supermarket was due to open in Chipping Sodbury.
He sad: “With the imminent arrival of a new Waitrose store there has never been a greater need for the High Street to host events and promote the town as a place to visit and to shop.
“The festival is firmly established as one of our most popular annual events attracting thousands of visitors from far and wide.”
NFU Mutual Thornbury is sponsoring this year’s festival which will also feature musicians entertaining shoppers and sampling and demonstrations at Hamptons Delicatessen, Ice n Easy, Cotswold Vintners, Swagger, The George Hotel, The Portcullis Hotel, Coffee Bean, Bistro 58, Henry's Oriental and The Health Shop.
