Fire breaks out at police training centre in Portishead
A NEW police training centre was gutted by flames this morning in Portishead.
Firefighters were called to a blaze at the facilities in Valley Road, which are under construction and due to be used by Avon and Somerset, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire Constabularies for firearms training, at 4.30am this morning.
When they arrived at Valley Road, the flames had spread to 50 per cent of the 140m by 40m building.
A total of six fire engines, mobile fire units are still at the scene tacking the blaze. The site, which will contain two indoor firing ranges and classrooms, is planned to open next year.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
Valley Road is closed to traffic and motorists are being advised to take alternative routes.
