Can Dursley avoid "Crap Towns" inclusion?
DURSLEY waits with bated breath to see whether it has avoided being included in a book called "Crap Towns Returns".
Editor of the book Sam Jordison told the Gazette the shortlist of the towns making it into the publication would be announced some time in September, before it is published on October 7.
Community leaders in the town were left mystified after Dursley's nomination to be considered one of the UK’s "crappest towns" in July.
The controversial book Crap Towns was published in 2003 and 2004, listing the most unpopular places to live in the country, nominated by members of the public.
In the run up to the latest edition being printed, Dursley was included on the longlist with 99 other towns, prompting a staunch defence by residents in the letters pages of the Gazette.
Dursley’s nomination came after the publishers received a nomination describing the town as "being left to decay until it has all the appeal of an Elizabethan’s teeth."
