Wotton-under-Edge pub The White Lion to be renovated into shops and flats
A FORMER pub in Wotton-under-Edge is set to be converted into two retail spaces and six one-bedroom flats.
The White Lion on Long Street has been left empty for over a year but the plan is now to find tenants for the shops who can draw up specifications for their particular needs as part of the refurbishment.
Surveyor Matt Blaken, from David James and Partners estate agents, which is marketing the site, said there had been some interest shown by food-based retailers already.
"It’s in a sorry state inside at the moment," he said.
"The priority is to get the shops let, then the flats will be constructed over a period of time."
Permission has already been granted for the conversion, with Wotton-under-Edge Town Council previously showing concern about the potential of having more empty shops on the street, which could affect the ambience of the town.
It is also highlighted the lack of parking as a worry.
