Help for Heroes BBQ a huge success in Cam
A MOTHER from Cam has been overwhelmed by the support shown for her fundraising barbecue in aid of soldiers wounded in Britain's conflicts.
Fiona Edwards, from Fairmead, along with Cam Family Butchers, raised £1,575 from the raffle, stalls and donations on Saturday at the green on Phillimore Road in aid of Help For Heroes.
As well as local soldiers attending the barbecue to give their support, visitors enjoyed a magic show, face-painting and live music from Doubletops Roadshow.
The event was topped off with a fortunate visit from the Red Arrows who thundered above the sun-soaked event in their iconic red jets.
The mother-of-two said she wanted to thank the staff and customers at the butchers, who had donated the food for the event, as well as all the people who helped on the day and those who donated so generously.
"The support was absolutely amazing. The weather was there and it only ran for four hours but people were still spending money up until the last minute," she said.
"It’s a charity that people feel strongly about, especially with everything in the news at the moment about whether we will get involved in another conflict.
"We’re planning on doing it again next year but make it bigger and better and make a whole day of it."
