Every household in Stroud district set to receive the Stroud District Loyalty card
EVERY household in the Stroud district is set to receive a loyalty card which offers exclusive savings to encourage shoppers to visit the high street.
As part of its annual newsletter, Stroud District Council (SDC) is delivering the Stroud District Loyalty card to the 50,000 households under its authority.
The card was launched last year and since then over 100 shops and businesses have signed up to it and now SDC is giving it another push.
The free card is easy to use as customers simply show their card at stores or businesses which accept it to get their specific offer or discount.
Restaurants, fast food shops, cafes, hotels, bookshops, opticians, cobblers and estate agents are some of the types of businesses on board.
Businesses can choose their own promotions, such as discounts, freebies and vouchers.
Leanne McCreight, who runs Bazell clothes store on Parsonage Street in Dursley, was encouraged by the news of the widespread distribution of the cards.
"I have had the loyalty card here for six months and we have people using it every week," she said.
"I think it’s a very good idea. Because we pushed the card at the beginning we see them come back. We offer 10 per cent off the original price if they spend over £10."
Owner of The Dursley Cobbler on Parsonage Street, Laurence Dickinson, is keen to see the effect the wide-spread distribution has on visitor numbers to Dursley’s high street as he offers 10 per cent off all goods and services at his store to card-holders.
"I hope it makes a difference," he said.
"Trading is difficult for high streets at the moment. Supermarkets draw people out of the streets and the internet has taken trade, those are the two biggest factors."
As well as independent shops, chains such as McDonald's and Subway also have discounts and offers available.
SDC has funded the project to encourage residents to shop in its local high streets and is the first in the UK to roll out such a scheme across a whole district.
Leader of SDC Cllr Geoff Wheeler said hundreds of people were already using the cards and making savings.
"By attaching the cards to our newsletter, we’re giving the scheme a big push which we hope will benefit both residents and businesses," he said.
Residents can find out about all of the offers available across the district on the loyalty card website (www.my-loyalty-card.com/stroud) where they can also sign up to receive news on the latest offers.
Any business wishing to sign up to the scheme, at no cost, should email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 07794 222156.
