Campaign starts to get motorists to belt up
A CAMPAIGN to curb the number of motorists driving without a seatbelt has just started in the county.
The Gloucestershire Road Safety Partnership has launched its autumn Seatbelt On? campaign in partnership with Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service and Gloucestershire Police.
The campaign will highlight the fact that last year, 543 drivers and passengers in Gloucestershire were reported for not belting up.
That is despite an estimated 300 lives being lost countywide each year which the partnership says would almost certainly have been saved if a seatbelt had been worn.
To drive home the message, the group is carrying out a week of roadside enforcement at county hot spots.
As part of the campaign, members of the public will be asked to try out the seatbelt sled, which simulates the benefit of a seatbelt in a collision.
