Gloucestershire balloon team from Exclusive Ballooning, in Breadstone, fly to victory in Gossard balloon in British National Championships
AN EYE-CATCHING hot air balloon has been piloted to victory by a Gloucestershire balloon firm.
Team Gossard made history by becoming the first team in over 20 years to retain the British National Championship on their first attempt.
The iconic racing balloon was launched by Breadstone-based Exclusive Ballooning last summer and is adorned with pictures of supermodel Elle Liberachi promoting the British lingerie brand.
Over 70 teams met in Brissac-Quincé, France for the competition from Tuesday, August 27 to Friday, August 30.
Team Gossard completed seven flights and a multitude of tasks including accurately flying to a target from several miles away and tactical flying at height.
Pilot and managing director of Exclusive Ballooning Andrew Holly said the win was fantastic.
"I am still waiting for it to sink in," he said. "To have come back and retained the title is such an honour and I couldn’t have done it without my brilliant team.
"The Gossard balloon is incredible to fly and everywhere it goes, it always gets attention. Gossard have been instrumental in our success with their sponsorship and support and its fantastic to be able to repay that with victories."
The unique, extreme racing balloon is the only one of its kind in the UK.
It stands a formidable 90-ft tall and measures 60,000 cubic ft.
The distinctive balloon competes in races across the world as well as attending events and balloon fiestas around Europe.
Back to back victories also mean Team Gossard remain the number one ranked team in the UK and will go to Brazil next year for the World Championships.
