A46 in Woodchester closing every Sunday for resurfacing
MOTORISTS in the south of Stroud district will see a new road surface being put in along the A46 in Woodchester.
To reduce disruption, Bath Road will be closed as the works are being carried out on Sundays only, with the first phase starting last week on Sunday September 15.
The last day of works will be October 20.
A closure is needed so improvements can be completed quickly and safely, and the road will be closed from 8am to 5pm when highway crews are on site.
To support local businesses, road signs will be put up during Sunday road closures to highlight where businesses in Woodchester are open as usual, with access still possible via local roads.
Highways crews will be resurfacing around three quarters of a mile of the busy road, which will involve removing the existing surface of the carriageway then laying down around 740 tonnes of brand new material.
Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways and flood, said: "Resurfacing roads is a priority and this section of road has been identified as being in need of repair.
"I hope residents and commuters will be pleased with the end result which should greatly improve road condition here. Please bear with us during these essential works."
Any through traffic can use the signed diversion route.
