DOUBLE yellow lines could be painted by the Castle School in Thornbury to ease traffic flow and increase visibility on Park Road.

In 2012, the advisory 'keep clear' markings placed at the junction of Tilting Road and Park Road were extended due to recurring visibility problems.

But cars parked outside Castle School are continuing to block oncoming traffic, effectively turning the street into a single lane with limited spaces for vehicles to give way during school hours.

To resolve the issue once and for all, South Gloucestershire Council highways officers put their proposal to place double yellow lines to restrict parking at the junction to the public this month.

They are currently collating residents' responses and comments and will be deciding whether to go ahead with the plans by Saturday, September 28.

Explaining the reasons behind the scheme in the consultation report, officers said: "Following meetings with local members, the proposal is to convert these keep clear markings into formal 'no waiting at any time' markings.

"The reason for this is because there are continued visibility and traffic flow problems in the area due to teachers and older students parking on Park Road. This often restricts the road to single lane traffic."

The double yellow lines would go all the way to the east side to cover the driveway of 32 Tilting Road.

If supported by the public, the waiting restrictions will be put in place during the 2013/2014 financial year.
