Wotton-under-Edge gun business Mark Hazel’s Gunroom booms with successful 25 years on high street
A WOTTON business is celebrating 25 years of trading in the town centre.
The Gloucestershire shooting and country enthusiast’s shop Mark Hazel’s Gunroom has carved out a niche market in the town.
Things haven’t always been easy with the recent recession and the introduction of increasingly complex gun laws but the shop, established in 1988, is now in its 25th year of business.
Business owner Mark Hazel puts his success down to the very personal service he offers his customers.
He said: "I do the buying, selling and handle all repairs, so I can guarantee the best possible service. It is what I would want so why not make it available to my customers?"
Mr Hazel started his business when his work as an engineer moved him to Yate. Not long afterwards when the factory in which he was worked was closed, he decided to turn his life-long passion for the countryside and shooting into a business to keep him in the area.
The Wotton Chamber of Trade’s president Duncan Elliott congratulated Mr Hazel on this milestone achievement in the town.
"Mark has always been a stalwart supporter of the Chamber," said Mr Elliott. "When Mark moved here the Chamber was in a form of hibernation. Along with some other businesses he managed to get it going again.
"It was Mark who pushed the concept of lunchtime opening. Over the years there have been many changes and unfortunately not all of the traders have survived, particularly in the current recession.
"He is to be congratulated."
