Phase Five Pre-school takes on more children in Yate
A YATE pre-school has expanded to offer more children fun and activities during the week.
Phase Five Pre-school, which has been established in Yate since 1979, has opened an additional centre with the St Nicholas Family Centre in Abbotswood.
The new play room is specifically for two to three-year-old children and youngsters aged between three and four will transfer to the school’s existing building in Kelston Close.
The expansion means the pre-school can now offer an extra 16 places.
Administrator Diane Walters said: “The new room is all about learning to share and play independently and will be staffed solely by existing staff so there is continuity.
“At our existing site we have such good links with Abbotswood and Wellesley primary schools we can really get the children ready for school.”
Previously, Phase Five could only take children aged two-and-a-half and over although it was so oversubscribed parents of younger children found it difficult to secure a place.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for us and we are so grateful to the Rev Iain Macfarlane at St Nicholas who offered us the room and to South Gloucestershire Council which has helped us through the transition,” said Mrs Walters.
“We are really excited about the future.”
Twelve children are already attending the extended pre-school, with more due to start after the October half term. The new room in Abbotswood is open from Tuesday to Thursday with plans to open on Mondays and Fridays shortly.
Phase Five is holding an open day on Saturday, October 12 (10am-12noon) when all prospective parents are welcome.
