Family inspires Wotton-under-Edge author's first children's book
A WOTTON mum has taken inspiration from her family and written her first children’s book.
Maria Little, 44, has self-published an illustrated book about a little boy living in a castle.
Hanakin’s House is her first endeavour into the literary world and charts the life of KinKin, an 8-year-old boy who lives a lonely life in a huge castle, only seeing his parents at mealtimes.
He whiles away his time with his toys, sleeping in different rooms of the castle each night.
Things all change for KinKin with the arrival of a girl called Hana who breathes new life into the castle and shows KinKin the meaning of friendship.
The book has been illustrated by a local artist Becky Ward and is aimed at four to eight-year-olds.
Mrs Little says she’s had the story in her head for years and the artwork was inspired by her own children, Mary, nine, Christopher, 11, Sarah, 13.
It all came together about two years ago, when her youngest children were seven and 11.
The part-time insurance broker is planning to sell the book locally, stocking it in Cotswold Book Room in Wotton, as well as the regional libraries.
She will be targetting Nailsworth, Stroud and Bristol, as well as castles around Wales, to fit with the subject matter of her fantastical tale.
Hanakin’s House, currently being printed, will be available for £6.99. For more information or to order, email the author on firstname.lastname@example.org
