THE COMMUNITY Speedwatch team in Dursley were in action at the weekend recording the speeds of traffic in the 30mph area of Uley Road on the outskirts of town.
In one and a half hours of recording they monitored 162 vehicles and found that 70 of them were exceeding the speed limit.
25 drivers recorded at excessive speeds will receive a warning letter from the police.
The Speedwatch project is a joint initiative between Dursley Town Council and the local police, being led by Cllr Matt Nicholson.
“We really need to get the message across that drivers in our town need to slow down and respect the speed limits,” he said.
“This project is not about issuing speeding tickets, it’s about changing driver behaviour.”
