X Factor's Shelley Smith, Lorna Simpson and Misha B and Britain's Got Talent finalist Loveable Rogues will perform in Yate Shopping Centre next month
TV TALENT show singers are taking centre stage at Yate’s Christmas lights switch on this year.
The X Factor’s Misha B, Lorna Simpson and Shelley Smith and Britain’s Got Talent finalists Loveable Rogues will perform at a concert in Yate Shopping Centre on Thursday, November 14 before the town’s Christmas lights are turned on.
Misha B appeared as a finalist on the show in 2011 while Lorna Simpson and Shelley Smith are the first two finalists to be voted off the current series, wtih Devon singer Shelley only leaving the show on Saturday.
Three-piece band Loveable Rogues appeared on Britain’s Got Talent last year, coming fourth overall after playing a selection of their own material and covers.
Madness tribute act Mainly Madness and Take That 2 are also on the bill at the event, which shopping centre bosses say will be a musical extravaganza to kick off the Christmas festivities.
In total, the acts will perform 17 songs on a stage in Four Seasons Square from 5pm, before the lights are turned on at 8.15pm.
The event follows several years of high profile stars turning the lights on in Yate including last year when 1990s band Steps came to the town during a comeback tour and reality TV star and singer Peter Andre who set hearts racing when he turned on the switch in 2009.
Yate Shopping Centre marketing manager Tracy King said the town’s annual Christmas parade would be held the following week, as it was last year, which would provide fun for all the family.
She said: “Following the success of last year’s Christmas events and significant positive feedback we will be holding the light switch on event on the November 14 and a separate Christmas parade for the children on Saturday, November 23 (at 12noon and 2pm).
“The parade will include the arrival of Father Christmas, camels and wisemen, roller-skating elves & snowmen and much more.”
