Did you sell this petrol can? - police investigating Filton arson attack
POLICE investigating a suspected arson attack at a family home in Filton have recovered a petrol can at the scene.
Detectives looking into the fire, which was started in a car parked on a driveway to a property in Kipling Road, have sent the can for forensic examination.
The blaze spread to the house where four people, a toddler and a teenage girl and two adults, were sleeping. They all escaped unharmed but the house was severely damaged by the fire, which happened at around 2am on Monday morning (October 21).
Officers said the petrol can discovered at the scene appears new and may have been bought in the days before the fire was started. We would like to speak to anyone who believes they may have information about the can.
Detective Inspector Jill Kells said she and her team wanted to speak to shopkeepers who sold similar petrol cans in the days leading up to the attack.
“This petrol can is an important line of inquiry for us,” she said.
