JAILED journalist arrested alongside Greenpeace activists in Russia has been granted bail.
Kieron Bryan, whose family hail from Wotton-under-Edge, was filming the charity’s work on Russian oil exploration in the Arctic Circle in September when he was detained.
The Russian administration had previously reduced his charges of piracy to hooliganism.
Arrested alongside 28 activists and a freelance photographer - come to be known as the Arctic 30 - the 29-year-old has been locked up for more than 60 days.
The videographer appeared at the Primorsky Court in St Petersburg this morning.
Addressing the court, he restated his objectivity as a journalist simply recording the events involving Greenpeace activists when on board the Arctic Sunrise.
His family, including uncle Colin Weston, of Wotton, have repeatedly stressed that Kieron is not an activist or member of Greenpeace.
Greenpeace has said they will lodge the £38,000 required to secure the release of the prisoners, although their release may take a week.
The Free Kieron campaign tweeted their support of the news but warned that the fight wasn't over yet.
