THREE fire crews were called to a blaze in an empty building in Thornbury last night.

Crews from Thornbury, Yate and Patchway attended the fire, on the ground floor of a derelict building in Midland Way, at 11.52pm.

Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the building and tackled the fire using a high pressure hose and one jet. A fan was then used to clear the smoke from the property.

Avon Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman Stephanie Mounsey said the fire is believed to have been started deliberately.
