A MEDIEVAL barn is hosting a carol concert just in time for Christmas.

Winterbourne Medieval Barn, on Church Lane, will welcome visitors to the popular annual event this Saturday, December 14 and Sunday, December 15 (4pm) in the last of the venue’s events for 2013.

Members of St Michael’s Church will put on a dramatised version of the Christmas story suitable for all ages, and the audience are invited to sing along with traditional Christmas carols.

Mulled wine and mince pies will be served and those attending the concerts are encouraged to wear warm clothing and sturdy footwear as the barn is not heated.

Tickets, which include a drink and a mince pie, are available from Daisy's Cafe on Flaxpits Lane, Winterbourne, or from www.winterbournebarn.org.uk or call 01454 774479. Tickets will not be available to buy on the gate.

The trust which runs the barn has recently installed a second site entrance and had ‘loo pods’ fitted to make visiting more pleasant for the public.

Events planned at the barn for 2014 will start with the annual Crank Up day on Sunday, April 6 where a wide variety of working stationary engines will be on show together with a craft fair.

Next year the trust plans to stage a series of community events including a concert with the Lochrian Ensemble, a medieval fair, an opera and a version of Shakespeare's Comedy of Errors.

Meanwhile, restoration work continues on the barn and the trust continues to raise money to bring the whole site into community use.
