The incident happened at around 3.30am this morning (Sunday, December 8) near junction 11a northbound on the motorway when a grey Ford Focus with a single male driver was involved in a collision.

Gloucestershire Police was called to the incident by a member of the public who found the body of the man some distance from the car after he had gone through the windscreen.

Duty supervisor Ginny Maslin told the Gazette that 10 cars had been hit by debris left by the accident.

"He had severe injuries and was found deceased by a member of the public driving on the motorway," she said.

The road was closed until about 11am as ambulances and fire crews attended the scene and cleared the debris.

Only one vehicle was involved in the accident and the driver, believed to be a 30-year-old man, has not been named at this stage.

Anyone who witnessed the collision but hasn't spoken to police should call 101, quoting incident 70 of December 8.
