THE fire service has issued a warning to motorists to report sightings of debris on the region’s motorways after two cars crashed on the M5.

Avon Fire and Rescue Service deployed two appliances from Avonmouth to the motorway between junctions 17 for Cribbs Causeway and 18 for Avonmouth at 8pm on Sunday after two cars collided with debris on the carriageway.

No-one was injured in the incident but firefighters did have to move the vehicles from the motorway.

Spokesman Dave Hodges said the rubbish had come from the load of an HGV.

“Two car hit the debris and required assistance,” he said. “Two crews made the scene safe and collected all the debris from the road and cleared the vehicles from the road.

“If anybody sees any debris like this call the police who will get the Highways Agency out to ensure the motorway is made clear.”
