PUPILS at St Andrew's Primary School in Cromhall posted their letters to Father Christmas for the last time in the village's temporary post office.

Youngsters from reception, year one and year two classes popped in to see sub-postmistress Sue Baines and get their letters stamped before sending them off.

By next Christmas the award winning community-run village shop and post office will be in a new permanent building that is being provided through a scheme involving Merlin Housing Association and South Gloucestershire Council.

It should be open for business in the summer of 2014., with three affordable homes also being built as part of the project.

The shop and post office, held up as a successful community-run enterprise, operated from a portable building in Townwell for nearly 18 years after residents got together to set up the volunteer-run store with postal facilities.

A move into another portable building outside Cromhall Chapel earlier this year allowed work on the new shop to get underway back in Townwell
