Frampton Cotterell choirs come together for Big Christmas Sing
FIFTY singers are tuning in together tonight for a one-off concert to raise money for Christian Aid.
The vocalists, aged between and 89, will come together in community choir for a night of roof-lifting hymns and Christmas classics.
The For One Night Only Community Scratch Choir will perform three well-known Christmas tunes including The Twelve Days of Christmas in front of an audience of around 200 at St Peter’s Church, Frampton Cotterell.
The event this evening (7-9pm) follows just four rehearsals together and is part of the Frampton Cotterell and Coalpit Heath Big Sing.
Co-ordinator Alison Bray said: “The event is organised by the three local churches in Frampton Cotterell and Coalpit Heath - St Saviour's, St Peter's and Zion United.
“Christian Aid is a cause that the three churches support wholeheartedly.”
She added: “Christmas time is a great opportunity for us to include the whole community in supporting those who are less fortunate, whilst having fun at the same time.
“The Big Sing is always a really relaxed fun event and a lovely start to Christmas and it’s wonderful to see so many local people come together with so much enthusiasm to join the scratch choir.
“Over the past four years we've raised around £2,300 and we hope to raise a goodly sum again this year, especially as we have all seen the plight of the people in the Philippines where Christian Aid is working with partners on the ground to bring relief and help communities get back on their feet after the typhoon.”
Other local choirs will be joining the scratch choir including The Crossbow Singers, Frampton Cotterell Male Voice Choir, Frampton Cotterell Primary School’s Starlight Choir, Watermore Junior School Choir and the Youth Group Choir.
