PUPILS at a school in Yate spread some festive cheer at a Christmas fair organised in aid of new equipment.

Members of Brimsham Green School’s Young Leaders group helped run the fair at the school on Saturday (December 7) where there were shopping stalls stacked with Christmas gifts, jewellery, wreaths and sweets as well as games and activities.

Shoppers tucked into a seasonal hog roast and a grand raffle saw some lucky visitors won the top prizes including a Google Nexus tablet, a 22 inch television and a case of M&S wine. Pupils helped out on a number of stalls, including a fundraiser for the school’s longstanding project in Uganda.

All money raised from the fair will go towards funding a new outside canopy for the school.

The event was a fundraiser for the Friends of Brimsham Green School, FOBG, led by a committee of five mums and two school staff.

“It was all very good,” said committee member Debby Ashton. “It was well attended and well supported.

“On the whole we were very pleased with everything. We will be pleased with the amount we have raised and we’re classing this as our second successful Christmas event.”

Reinstated last September, the group is currently raising money to install a canopy over the playground to allow for all-weather play. The team expects to realise the ongoing project in the coming year.

The total funds raised are yet to be counted, but the group is already starting to prepare for the next fundraiser – a shopping and pamper evening on Friday, March 21.
