A RESIDENTIAL home in Yate is celebrating a bumper Christmas after a festive fair raised funds for activity groups to use next year.

Cambrian Green Court, on Wellington Road, held a Christmas fair for residents, their families and the centre’s neighbours where there was shopping stalls, games and activities and refreshments on offer.

Organised by a residents’ group, the fair raised nearly £300 which will be used to give the elderly people who live in the development a range of activities, excursions and groups to take part in during 2014.

Organiser Frances Lewis said: “It went really well and we were surprised to find we raised more than at our harvest festival.

“The money will be spent on activities and also help fund new healthy eating and gardening groups we have set up. That is what our committee is all about – we are trying to make sure people here have as rounded and full a life as possible.”

Mrs Lewis said the fair, which included stalls from outside companies such as The Body Shop, had given frail residents an opportunity to do some Christmas shopping without having to leave the centre.
