A CAR has crashed into a shop in the middle of Dursley town centre.

A green Ford Fusion left the road at around 5pm on Friday, December 13 and drove into the Filling Station on Silver Street after clipping another car.

The vehicle is believed to have left the road after exiting the roundabout opposite St James Church onto Silver Street.

Emergency services were quickly on the scene with two fire engines sent to help clear the car from the foyer of the shop and several police cars arriving to help divert traffic and speak to eye-witnesses.

The fleet of emergency vehicles necessitated the need for one way traffic on the road in the middle of rush hour on Friday and queues of vehicles quickly built up in the area.

The front of the Ford was severely damaged in the incident and the airbags had deployed during the collision.

A silver Hyundai Santa Fe was also damaged in the accident.

Some of the Filling Station’s windows were smashed and the brickwork to the front of the shop was demolished.

The cause of the accident is not yet known.

Luke Griffey, 23, was at his home directly behind the store, with the entrance being a small alleyway narrowly avoided by the car.

He said: “We just heard a massive thump. Someone came around and knocked on the door and said we should come have a look at this.

“I have never seen anything like it in Dursley. It was a massive surprise.”
