SCHEMES at Berkeley Community Library to boost its membership took a festive angle this week, with children invited to make Christmas decorations.

As well as making their own cardboard Christmas trees, young avid readers were able to make their own candles and winter wonderland decorations on Saturday, December 14.

The drop-in event allowed children to come in when they liked and take part in the crafts before or after using the other library facilities.

Volunteer secretary at the library on Margaret Tayler said they hold regular children’s activities which were generally very well received.

“We’re getting a gradual following of children coming in now to take part in the activities,” she said.

“We want to encourage children to come into the library to foster in interest to the next generation. If the youngsters are not interested, the libraries will fold which would be a shame.”

The next event at the library on Marybrook Street will be on Friday, January 3 when children can build crafts revolving around the theme of robots.

The library opens itself up to various organizations and clubs wishing to use the building’s facilities. For more information call 01453 810520.
